Boeing will be implementing changes to give airlines more oversight of its facilities following an incident involving Alaska Airlines Flight 1282. It plans to allow airlines into its factories and those of contractor Spirit AeroSystems to provide extra quality control inspections on the 737 production line. The incident, which took place on January 5th, involved a blowout of the door plug, leading to the grounding of Max 9 planes by the Federal Aviation Administration. Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal stated that these changes are necessary as the incident highlighted the need for improvement in their quality practices. Alaska Airlines has begun inspections of its Max 9 planes and is conducting a review of Boeing’s production quality and control systems. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident.
