The technology known as Qi, used for wireless charging in electronic devices, is set to receive an upgrade called Qi2. This new version is expected to bring various improvements to the current standard. Qi2 is built on Apple’s MagSafe technology, which allows for faster charging rates and magnetic attachment and alignment. While wireless charging speeds are still slower compared to wired charging, Qi2 will support charging at up to 15 watts. The magnetic alignment feature of MagSafe will also be incorporated into Qi2, making it easier for users to position their devices on chargers. Qi2 chargers are expected to be available soon, and it is recommended to choose a Qi2 model for future device compatibility. There are early plans for Qi3, but it is not expected to launch until at least 2025.
